Snacks For KidsWhat do you pack for your kids for school. For me, it was always bread and jam, spread the night before until my kids got so sick of it. I'm on a really tight budget and fancy snacks from the supermarket are kind of pricey. On top of that, those sugar laden, fat filled snacks are so fattening and when the kids are overweight, what's a mom to do? I came upon this by accident. The other day, the loaf of bread I bought for our family was faulty. The top pieces were whole but the lower slices were broken in halves. They didn't look appealing, so I toasted them, let them cool and put them on an air tight box. What I had were akin to crispy biscuit bases minus the butter and sugar. My kids actually loved them when we spread over each piece. They were just like fancy jam biscuits. I was pleased as they contained none of the fat and a fraction of the sugar. Why buy jam biscuits when you can make your own fancy biscuits with jam and toast? Cut a slice of bread into four and toast it until crispy. Let it cool, keep it in an air tight container so the kids can have their home made, fat free, healthy jam biscuits. Better yet, use wholemeal bread for the toast so kids get the fiber they need as well. Fancy a cheese cracker? Put a quarter of a slice of cheese on each quarter of bread and toast it in a toaster oven. Instant cheese snacks that are healthier than supermarket versions. For the school lunch box, make fancy toasts like mickey mouse toasts or whatever might be trendy for the kids. Or just cut the bread into biscuit sizes. Include a tiny container of jam for them to dip their toasts into. You would need a toaster for these home made, healthy, fancy biscuits so if you haven't already got one, buy one of these. search results for kitchen
