Crockpot Recipes

Crock pot meals are a boon for working moms. Toss ingredients in the pot, add water, switch it on and leave for work. When you come home, you and your family can feast on a one dish meal that is very nourishing. If you've got a crockpot or intend to get one, these free crockpot recipes should come in handy.

crockpot beef recipes

I love beef stew. This one is so nourishing and tasty. It is one of my best crockpot recipes. You'll need the following ingredients for enough stew for a family of four.

  • 1 kg of beef. Okay, normally I split this into 500 g oxtail, 500g of a cut that is appropriate for stewing. I save money buy getting whatever's discounted on that day.
  • 4 beef tomatos that are large, and very red, but still firm.
  • 4 large carrots
  • 4 button mushrooms
  • 2 large potatos
  • 2 stalks of celery
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 tablespoon corn flour to thicken it.

The oxtail gives the stew its flavor. The meat gives the family something to eat other than bones, skin and fat or they'd complain there's nothing inside. We're all meat eaters in this family.

  • Season the meat with soya sauce and corn flour. If you don't have soya sauce, season that with a pinch of sauce, italian herbs and a teaspoon of raw sugar and corn flour. Leave to marinade for an hour at least or overnight if you're cooking it first thing in the morning.
  • Wash the ingredients. Peel the onions, carrots and potatos. Slice the onions, mushrooms and carrots finely, dice the potatos. If you're cooking before you leave for work in the morning, save time by doing this the night before and sealing the cut/diced veggies in a bag or container.
  • Dump the oxtail, the meat all the veggies into the pot.
  • Add water
  • Switch on the crockpot before you leave for work and you'll have a delicious dinner by the time you get home.

crockpot soup recipes

A basic soup recipe works well with any meat. Substitute the beef and oxtail in the crockpot beef stew recipe above with pork or chicken for a different stew altogether. For a soup, leave out the flour.

For a completely different taste, how about a crockpot chinese soup? This want's savoury with a strong flavour, that's slightly fishy due to the dried cuttlefish but it is a family favourite.

You need

  • 1 kg pork ribs
  • a handful of dried red dates
  • 1 large, fresh lotus root
  • 1 large dried cuttlefish
  • a handful of dried chestnuts

Wash and peel the lotus roots. Slice them finely and put them in the crockpot. Wash and put all the other ingredients into the crockpot as well. Add water, switch on the crockpot and you're good to go. Hours later, cook some rice and you'll get your home made chinese dinner
